Where do the flowers go? (อยู่ไหนแล้ว—ดอกไม้ ?) is a set of portraits that are build from my Thai - English poetry that bare the same title (see below) and shot in style of the funeral portrait. This ongoing series celebrate going, coming and staying. Our journey of gaining and losing lead us to our shared direction : Longing.

Each photos are digitally shot with no artificial light with the consent of the individual who live, work or travel through the cities of Honolulu, Hawaii , USA.

(The hand fold leather Orchids that rest on each person's ear, and neck) in this portrait series are from previous group exhibition " Celebration" in 2020 where 555 hand folds flowers were arranged with live Thai Orchids in the duration of 64 days.)

English Poetry:

Where did that flower
she wore between her ear and temple
go?

Where did the circle of lilies go?
The circle of roses?
The circles of orchids
looped or plucked by wind
whirling on their way to the pavement
pinkening the bus stops
and airport parking lots?

Are they faded to the color of earth?
Are they dry chemical shadows?

Are they still there,
between the ear and temple?

Thai Poetry:

ดอกไม้ดอกนั้น
ที่เธอเคยทัดไว้ข้างหู
ตอนนี้อยู่ที่ไหน?

หรือเธอทัดมันไว้ ใต้พวงหรีดดอกไม้จันทร์
ข้างหลังซุ้มกุหลาบ ?
หรือเธอได้เทียบมัน—กับมาลัยกล้วยไม้สด
ที่ปลิดพัดกลีบดอก ครั้งเมื่อเธอได้เต้น
เมื่อเธอรอคอย ให้สายลม
ประดับป้ายรถเมล์ และ สนามบิน
ด้วยสีชมพูของเกสร ก่อนเธอต้องเดินทาง

หรือมันได้จางกลับไปสู่ผิวดิน
ร่มเงาสัจจะ ในการไล่ตามของธรรมชาติ ?

มันคงอยู่ที่ใดที่หนึ่ง

About Artist

Poj-chara (Shui) Tsang 
My objective is to communicate themes of tradition, human-animal relationships, and a celebration of simultaneous pleasure and callousness. Leather serves as both a tool and an important conceptual element in my paintings, performance, and sculpture. Having handled leather for over a decade, I harbor conflicting and hypocritical thoughts regarding this costly material. My design discipline and overlapping cultural heritage inform my work. Through my writing, sculpture, and two-dimensional works I explore the exchange of cruelty for beauty, skin, and the constant pull of life and death.
